Thomas Anders: Dieter Bohlen was only an “emergency solution” on “Modern Talking”

It's an open secret by now, but Dieter didn't started out as a regular member of the project. The host of this talk show even tried to trap Thomas with a different question.

Thomas Anders reveals: Dieter Bohlen was only an “emergency solution” on “Modern Talking”

Thomas Anders was a guest on the MDR talk show “Riverboat”. He revealed that Dieter Bohlen was not originally planned to appear on “Modern Talking”.

Munich - Thomas Anders (60) was once again coaxed to tell a less flattering story about his former "Modern Talking" partner Dieter Bohlen (69). In the MDR talk show "Riverboat" on December 15, 2023, the conversation turned to the duo's first big success "You're my heart, you're my soul," which Bohlen composed. Apparently, it was not initially planned for Bohlen to also step into the spotlight.

Wolfgang Lippert wants to know from Thomas Anders: Was Dieter Bohlen a “half-emergency solution”?

Presenter Wolfgang Lippert (71), who had drunk heavily at the end of November at the “Wetten, dass..?” farewell , confronted his guest, who was also successful with solo songs outside of “Modern Talking”: “I think it’s a really cool story that Dieter Bohlen, who is always celebrated as the ‘great Zampano’, was actually a half-stop solution. Please tell me about it.” Thomas Anders was not very happy about this question: “If I have to talk about Dieter Bohlen again, it will be all over the newspapers again...”.

Dieter Bohlen - The meanest sayings of the DSDS boss

Nevertheless, he allowed himself to be persuaded to report how it all went down: the song "You're my heart, you're my soul" had been recorded and the record company wanted to make a duo out of it, but had no one suitable. However, no one there believed the song would be successful. So they decided on a fictitious name, "Modern Talking," and put a sneaker and a patent leather shoe on the cover instead of faces.

Thomas Anders reveals: Dieter Bohlen only joined “You're my heart, you're my soul” later

In the unexpected event that the song was more popular with the public than expected, the record company had a plan B. "And if the thing ever makes it into the charts - probably not - we can always put someone else next to you," according to Anders. "That happened three months later and the second person was Dieter Bohlen."

Of course, Dieter never missed out the chances. If you are innocent, why is he always raging out? 😏

Yes, we're aware of this.

In past documentaries about MT they always said (I think even DB) that Dieter was never planned to be part of the duo but just a producer. This is what Thomas also tried to convey. He did not say that Dieter was an emergency solution in general. Big difference.

However, the reality is, that Dieter was also NOT an emergency solution for the DUO. The cover single of YMHYMS was a pair of sneakers and shoe. Which means TA & DB were always planned to be a duo together. I think Thomas just said what has been constantly said for decades.

But yeah, Dieter is incredibly insecure. And it is shocking how people just do not see that.
